Nokia shows off Aeon 'wearable' concept phone

Nokia has unveiled its latest concept phone, designed to highlight the company's focus on products that allow users to more readily stamp their personality on their gadgets.

The concept phone, dubbed Aeon, combines two touch-sensitive panels mounted on a fuel-cell power pack. The handset's connectivity and electronics are built into the panels to allow them to be used independendently. When assembled, one panel would operate as the display, the other as the keypad. Since the buttons are entirely virtual, Aeon can flip instantly between a numeric pad for dialling, a text-entry pad for messaging, or a media-player controller.

It's a cute idea and one that ties in with Nokia's expectation that phones will become essentially "wearable" devices - if foresees users removing one of Aeon's display panels and mounting it on a watch-like strap or worn as a badge.

More than a phone, Aeon might tap into local wireless networks to transmit data acquired from sensors such as devices that monitor the user's health signs - which is the kind of application the company has in mind for its Wibree personal-area network technology. ®

New element for electronic circuits‏

For nearly 40 years, scientists have speculated that basic electrical circuits have a natural ability to remember things even when the power is switched off. But, they just couldn't find it. Now, researchers at Hewlett-Packard (HP) have proven them right.

HP today announced that researchers from HP Labs, the company's central research facility, have proven the existence of what had previously been only theorized as the fourth fundamental circuit element in electrical engineering.

The newly discovered circuit element — called a memristor — could enable cell phones that can go weeks or longer without a charge, PCs that start up instantly, and laptops that retain your session information long after the battery dies.

Memristors -- the fourth passive component type after resistors, capacitors and inductors -- were first postulated in a seminal 1971 paper in the IEEE Transactions on Circuit Theory by professor Leon Chua at the University of California (Berkeley), but their first realization was just announced today by HP.

This scientific advancement could make it possible to develop computer systems that have memories that do not forget, do not need to be booted up, consume far less power and associate information in a manner similar to that of the human brain.

According to HP Labs Senior Fellow R. Stanley Williams and Chua, now virtually every electronics textbook will have to be revised to include the memristor and the new paradigm it represents for electronic circuit theory.

The memristor is a radically different approach from another type of solid state storage called phase-change memory that is being pursued by I.B.M., Intel and other companies. Memristor-based memory and storage has the potential to lower power consumption and provide greater resiliency and reliability in the face of power interruptions to a data center.

"Electronic theorists have been using the wrong pair of variables all these years -- voltage and charge. The missing part of electronic theory was that the fundamental pair of variables is flux and charge," said Chua. "The situation is analogous to what is called "Aristotle's Law of Motion, which was wrong, because he said that force must be proportional to velocity.

That misled people for 2000 years until Newton came along and pointed out that Aristotle was using the wrong variables. Newton said that force is proportional to acceleration -- the change in velocity. This is exactly the situation with electronic circuit theory today. All electronic engineering text books have been teaching using the wrong variables -- voltage and charge--explaining away inaccuracies as anomalies. What they should have been teaching is the relationship between changes in voltage, or flux, and charge."

Another reason to try linux (ubuntu)

andLinux is a complete Ubuntu Linux system running seamlessly in Windows 2000 based systems (2000, XP, 2003, Vista; 32-bit versions only). This project was started for Dynamism for the GP2X community, but its userbase far exceeds its original design. andLinux is free and will remain so, but donations are greatly needed.

andLinux uses coLinux as its core which is confusing for many people. coLinux is a port of the Linux kernel to Windows. Although this technology is a bit like running Linux in a virtual machine, coLinux differs itself by being more of a merger of Windows and the Linux kernel and not an emulated PC, making it more efficient. Xming is used as X server and PulseAudio as sound server.

andLinux is not just for development and runs almost all Linux applications without modification.

Partitionless, run totally within windows, install like any other windows program, run linux software like any other windows software. try andlinux.

Wubi...Linux world

Wubi is an unofficial Ubuntu installer for Windows users that will bring you into the Linux world with a single click. Wubi allows you to install and uninstall Ubuntu as any other application. If you heard about Linux and Ubuntu, if you wanted to try them but you were afraid, this is for you.

Wubi is Safe
It does not require you to modify the partitions of your PC, or to use a different bootloader.

Wubi is Simple
Just run the installer, no need to burn a CD.

Wubi is Discrete
Wubi keeps most of the files in one folder, and If you do not like, you can simply uninstall it.

Wubi is Free
Wubi (like Ubuntu) is free as in beer and as in freedom. You will get this part later on, the important thing now is that it costs absolutely nothing, it is our gift to you...

Latest toast bread which can leave message. Cool...

Try to get such a toast bread and leave a message for the family!! :)

Samsung U700 vs Motorola V8 Feature Comparision

Both the Samsung Ultra Edition 12.1 (U700) and the Motorola RAZR2 V8 are very stylish handsets. Aesthetics is a very personal issue, so I'll leave that for you to decide which phone appeals to you more. What I can say is that while some people may like the touch-sensitive softkeys on the U700, there are others who'd prefer to stick with hardware buttons.

Motorola's RAZR series has come a long way since the first RAZR was introduced in 2004. Although the RAZR2 V8 is still based on that familiar RAZR shell, it's slimmer and more pleasing to the eyes. The U700, on the other hand, is part of Samsung's Ultra Edition series and has all along touted a deadly combination of looks and slim profiles. The main difference between the two is that the RAZR2 V8 is a clamshell while the U700 is a slider.

In terms of features, the V8 is a bit lacking compared with the U700's HSDPA radio, microSD expansion card slot and 3.2-megapixel autofocus camera. If we had to compare, the RAZR2 V9, which is expected to be available in December this year, may be a better match. We haven't had the chance to finish our review of the RAZR2 V8 because there wasn't a commercial set available to us, but if you ask me the U700 looks more promising. Do read our first take on the V8 and our review on the U700 to find out more.

RFID chip as small as dust

Hitachi Develops a New RFID with Embedded Antenna µ-Chip

--Makes Possible Wireless Links that Work Using Nothing More Than a 0.4mm X 0.4mm Chip, One of the World's Smallest ICs--

The µ-Chip, announced by Hitachi in July 2001, is one of the world's smallest IC chips at 0.4mm X 0.4mm. The chip data is recorded in read-only memory during the semiconductor production process, and therefore cannot be rewritten, thus guaranteeing its authenticity. Applications of the µ-Chip include a system for managing the SCM materials on sites, and entrance tickets for Expo 2005 Aichi Japan which opens on March 25, 2005.

The primary features of this revolutionary µ-Chip are as follows.
(1) A RFID IC chip measuring only 0.4mm X 0.4mm with built-in antenna
Despite its extremely small size, this µ-Chip has a built-in antenna to permit contactless communications (at very close proximity) with other devices without using an external antenna.

(2) No need for special manufacturing equipment
The antenna is formed using bump-metalization technology (used to create the electrical contacts of an IC), a process already widely used by semiconductor manufacturers, thus eliminating any need for specialized equipment.

(3) Complete compatibility with conventional µ-Chip
With ID numbers and support systems that are fully compatible with those of existing µ-Chip, the new chip is fully compatible with all systems that use current µ-Chip technology.

Motorola ROKR E8 musicphone

This is the new music phone launch by motorola. What I think special is the key pad is software control and will change on function that being accessed(refer to picture above). The interesting direction-pad is something Motorola is calling the “Omega Wheel,” and will be used for music and menu navigating.
